Programs & Services

Our aim is to create science-based programs, education and initiatives that promote health and well-being and positively impact peoples’ lives. We take a holistic approach that integrates multiple aspects of science, business, health and education that will identify the best “default option” solutions that address: nutrition, fitness, technology, behavior modification and integrative medicine.
Through its programs, the Colorado Center will empower individuals to achieve healthier lives and to create healthier communities through sustainable, life-long changes in diet, physical activity and personal health management. Unlike more conventional approaches to health promotion and disease prevention, the Colorado Center will offer science-based programs that are developed primarily from the vast breadth of knowledge of University of Colorado researchers and clinicians.
The Center will offer a wide variety of individual services related to health and wellness that go well beyond weight management, including personal training, exercise performance testing and coaching, integrative medicine (e.g., massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, mindfulness training), pre-operative nutrition optimization, and a selection of cosmetic dermatology offerings (e.g., facial and body contouring).
Community programs
Currently the Colorado Center for Health and Wellness has ongoing programs in community settings such as schools and workplaces. In addition, community-based organizations utilize the center resources to improve the health of the populations they serve.
“We want people coming in (to the center), but we also want to go out and reach them in their communities as well,” Executive Director Dr. James Hill told Health Policy Solutions.
Outreach efforts are underway to bring the newest research directly to children in the neighboring Aurora and Cherry Creek schools starting with 6,700 fifth graders next year. Experts are also working to connect with leaders in the African American and Hispanic communities, where obesity levels and accompanying health challenges, such as high blood pressure, are causing unprecedented rates of illness and early death.
The following programs, currently implemented, were developed by creating new thinking, evaluating the new concepts, and developing, implementing and evaluating programs and initiatives in the community:
- America On the Move/Small Changes
- Colorado Weigh
- Colorado Obesity Research Initiative (CORI)
- Think Tanks and Summits
Clinical services, programs and products
A main focus of the Colorado Center for Health and Wellness is to create a group of comprehensive clinical programs that engage people to optimize their health and prevent chronic disease. The clinical programs will integrate nutrition, fitness, weight management and integrative medicine. Programs will be science based and translate research findings into state of the art curriculum, services and products to facilitate healthier lifestyles.
Currently we are developing programs focused on:
- Worksite Wellness
- School Culture of Health
- Healthy Families
- Becoming a Smart Shopper
- Weight Management
- Addressing Prediabetes
