Our Facility

The Colorado Center for Health and Wellness is anchored by an extraordinary 94,000-square-foot building, slated to open in April 2012. The Anschutz Wellness Building is a five-floor “green” complex designed to be a hub of activity at the heart of the Anschutz Medical Campus and our city. It will set a new, global standard for integrated, cross-disciplinary research to create practical solutions to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent disease.

The building’s design reinforces the center’s mission: to get Americans moving and promote healthier eating. Instead of hiding the stairs, an open staircase dominates the foyer while a running track seems to float overhead. Nearby, open kitchens will feature an in-house celebrity chef, a healthy bistro and demonstration kitchens for visiting chefs to learn nutritious techniques to take back to their restaurants.

The building is specifically designed to allow for close collaboration by experts in the fields of nutrition, exercise physiology, obesity/weight management, and behavior change in a single, state-of-the art facility. The resulting synergies will foster not only the development of knowledge from research, but the efficient and effective translation of advanced scientific understanding into impactful clinical and community programming.

At the new building, patients, employees, students and the general public are able to participate in research studies, utilize the building’s exercise and educational facilities, and receive top-notch medical care.
